Apron Art Display in Whitewater!

We just recently had a great write-up in the Whitewater Banner about our Apron Art display that is opening July 1st at the Whitewater Cultural Arts Center!

Here is the article from the Whitewater Banner's website:

Apron Art to be on Display at Whitewater's Cultural Arts Center in July Vintage Aprons and Reproductions will be Displayed

Stonemill Quilters will be exhibiting their apron art at the Whitewater Arts Alliance's Cultural Arts Center on 402 West Main Street in July. Aprons, vintage and new, will be on display from July 1 through July 26, 2009. Anyone interested in appreciating the cleverness of turning a domestic need into an art form will enjoy this display. All aprons are hand-sewn with appliqués and embellishments.

"These aprons are from an era when people actually wore them, and in doing so decided to be creative in their 'wearable art'," said Cheryl Kehm of Woodland Quilts. She adds, "Aprons are just starting to come back and we are excited to share this beautiful exhibit."

The exhibit opens Wednesday July 1 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and includes a brief presentation which will be given the night of the opening. The Cultural Arts Center will be open Wednesday through Sunday from Noon to 5 p.m. during the exhibit, which runs through July 26.

"At the Cultural Arts Center we are delighted to exhibit many types of art, including this 'wearable' art by local quilters," said Roni Telfer, president of the board of directors of the Whitewater Arts Alliance.

Whitewater's local quilt guild, the Stonemill Quilters, will provide aprons for the exhibit from their personal collections. The aprons, made of wonderful fabrics and textiles, will be displayed with anecdotes and historical information. The Cultural Arts Center is located on 402 West Main Street in the historic White building near the Birge Fountain. Parking is behind the building, with an elevator available from the parking lot entrance
